UN Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI): www.unpri.org/privateequity  The PRI are six principles that aim to help investors (all asset classes) integrate consideration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues into investment decision-making and ownership practices.
There are close to 900 signatories to the principles: asset owners, asset managers and service organizations.
The UN PRI have a dedicated Private Equity workstream that published two documents on responsible investment in private equity: a 'Guide for Limited Partners' and 'Case Studies' (see website).

The UN Global Compact: www.unglobalcompact.org  
The UN Global Compact is aimed at companies that are committed to sustainability and responsible business practices. It offers both a both a policy platform and a practical framework.
It is based on 10 universally-accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption and offers a wide spectrum of management tools, resources, and topical programs.

Set of guidelines for Disclosure and Transparency in (UK) Private Equity published in 2007 that is applicable to Portfolio companies, Private Equity Industry and Trade Organizations (BVCA).

Industry Standards include reference to ESG and non/extra-financial items (Governing Principles, Corporate Governance guidelines and Reporting guidelines)
